The Creative Family

I got a new book today. It's one that I've been wanting to read called "The Creative Family" by Amanda Blake Soule. She has a blog that I read from time to time:

SouleMama blog

It's a great blog. She's one creative mom and truly inspirational. I haven't read much of the book yet, but the introduction left me feeling really inspired. The intro. talked about that feeling of needing to create in order to feel fulfilled, whole, complete. I guess you'll probably either know what I'm talking about or think I'm speaking complete gibberish, but if you've ever felt it you know what I mean. That longing inside to create and express yourself. I feel this way when I sew, knit, scrapbook, etc...Since going back to work I feel very much that I've lost this piece of myself. I'm trying so hard to keep this part of myself going, but I find that with all the time constraints of working full-time as a mother it's very difficult. So Boo is in bed. My goal tonight is to work on the scrapbook. So we'll see how I do with this. Scrapbooking is one of the creative endeavors that I really enjoy. I actually have a goal to have Boo's one year scrapbook pretty much done by the time his 1st birthday rolls around so that I can put the book on display. So far the book hasn't made it out of the hospital. But I have hope. Surely I can climb this mountain if I set my mind to it. At the very least I can get close to finishing. So we'll see.

Anyways, I would recommend reading this book. I haven't finished it, so I can't speak to the entire book, but I can definitely say that it looks promising so far.

  2. Hi Crystal from Stephanie! I found your blog through Carey's blog so I hope you don't mind me stopping through. I love the soulemama blog too! I think a lot about the need we have to be creative. I've concluded that it is one of the ways we yearn after the nature of God and our need to find joy in creating as He is the ultimate Creator. I hope that made sense! Anyway, you have a really cute little guy, he has definitely gotten bigger from the last time I saw him. Best of luck with doing daycare, you are a braver woman than I! I read your blog about natural cleaning products and I wondered if you'd tried the baking soda/apple cider vinegar/essential oil option for shampooing? I've tried it and it really does help your hair get back to its natural state. I'm pregnant now though, so the vinegar smell isn't jiving with me so I use burt's bees for now.

There's a lot about it on a blog I read by angry chicken (there's a link on my blog). I think you might like it if you don't read it already! Anyway, it was nice to catch up with you through your blog. You are an amazing mama!
